'Fallout 4' DLC release news: What can players find inside the 'Far Harbor' DLC?

(Bethesda)

"Fallout 4" is expected to get a lot of new DLC in the coming months and the biggest of these soon-to-be released content drops is none other than "Far Harbor."

As of now, there aren't a lot of specific details that have been released about "Far Harbor," but one thing Bethesda has said is that the upcoming drop will feature the biggest DLC landmass that the studio has ever made for any game.

In a recent interview with IGN, the game's director Todd Howard again talked about the massive scale of "Far Harbor," though he also conceded that it doesn't offer as much content as the "Shivering Isles" DLC that was released for "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion."

Howard also indicated that they based "Far Harbor's" $25 price tag in part on how its amount of content relates to other previously released DLC packs. According to him, while the upcoming DLC doesn't offer as much new content as the $30 "Shivering Isles" pack, it still offers more than the $20 "Dawnguard" that was released for "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."

For the $25 "Fallout 4" players will spend on the upcoming DLC pack, they will gain access to a new island known as Far Harbor, and in this new setting, they will find a population made up of residents native to that place, along with the Synths as well as members of the Children of Atom, according to Bethesda.

The new location is also expected to feature its fair share of dungeons and enemies along with faction quests and additional places that can be turned into settlements.

The location itself may actually be based on a real-life place found in Maine.

According to Eurogamer's Tom Phillips, Far Harbor sounds suspiciously like the real-world location known as Bar Harbor, which is regarded as a well-known tourist destination in the state.

Bar Harbor is said to offer vast expanses of wilderness that may soon be turned into irradiated landscapes inside "Fallout 4."

It's also situated close to the Atlantic Ocean, so players may find themselves swimming a lot inside the virtual version of Bar Harbor.

For those with some extra money to spend, a trip to Bar Harbor may provide them with a sneak peek at some of the locations that may also end up being included in the "Far Harbor" DLC.

An exact release date for "Far Harbor" has yet to be announced, though "Fallout 4" players can expect it to be launched sometime in May.
