Epic Games has now released Fortnite Alpha invites to selected gamers, where the first phase (Online Test 1) runs from Dec. 2 to Dec. 19, 2014. This Alpha testing will help the developers and engineers assess the game's core functionality such as actual gameplay, sign-ups and patching.

"During this phase of the Alpha we are testing to make sure all of the basic stuff, from the launcher to all the game systems, is working so we can start getting real feedback from real players to help us make the game better. The game is still rough around the edges but we think it can benefit from your input even at this early stage," the official announcement said.

Fortnite's Online Test 1 is just the beginning of more testing to come. So, there's hope for those who will not be able to get their hands on the Fortnite Alpha.

"If you haven't recieved an invite yet, don't lose hope! There are more invites going out later this week and some of those invited have friend invites to share."

Interested gamers are encouraged to register in the official website of Fortnite for a chance of being selected for the next phases of testing.

Epic Games has also put together an episodic series entitled "Fortnite Community Show" for the fans. The four-minute video "The Fortnite Show Episode 1: The Fort Awakens" features interviews with developers and managers of the studio.

Fortnite was originally announced in 2011. There was no obvious reason to the delay, but the developers are now seemingly adamant in pushing for 2015 release.

Fortnite is an upcoming open-world game where players work together to rebuild a homeland that was once claimed and invaded by mysterious darkness known as "the Storm".
