Galaxy A7 release date, specs, price, news update: Samsung's thinnest smartphone available to buy in the US at long last

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A7 early this year across different parts of the world, but had not made the device available in the US. Samsung is yet to officially release the Galaxy A7 in North America, but the device can now be ordered online from Amazon for as low as $442.43 (free shipping included).

The Galaxy A7 is the larger and more powerful brother of the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. Measuring 151 x 76.2 x 6.3 mm, the Galaxy A7 is Samsung's thinnest smartphone to date and comes with a metal-clad outer-cover. The handset sports a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution (1080 x 1920 pixels), enclosed within Gorilla Glass 4. The Galaxy A7 is powered by a 64-bit 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, paired with an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The Galaxy A7 sports a 13 MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, along with a 5 MP front-facing camera for video calls and selfies. The device offers 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 64GB via MicroSD card slot. The smartphone packs a fixed 2600mAh Li-Ion battery with talk-time support of up to 17 hours on 3G and music playback time of up to 54 hours.

The device runs Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) out-of-the-box, but has already begun receiving Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS update in various parts of the world. The Galaxy A7 offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, HSPA, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 2.0 and microUSB.

Amazon is currently selling the dual-SIM version of the Galaxy A7, which is available in a few countries where it is very popular among Android users. However, the Galaxy A7 being sold on Amazon does not feature LTE and instead offers HSDPA (compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile).
