'Game of Thrones' season 7 cast & plot rumors: UFC Fighter Conor McGregor cast for season 7

Although there are a few more months before the seventh season of "Game of Thrones" returns to HBO, the internet has already been set ablaze with numerous rumors and spoilers about the upcoming season. Out of all the rumors and theories for season 7, fans never expected to hear the latest cast news, placing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Conor McGregor in the cast.

According to the latest reports, the MMA fighter has been cast for a role that will recur in the last two seasons of "Game of Thrones." UFC president Dana White recently addressed the rumors, confirming McGregor's appearance on the TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin's well-loved novels. White dropped the news in an interview with Fox Sports Live.

"I knew a few months ago they were interested in putting him in the show," White said. "I'm glad he did it. It'll be great."

Since the secret is now out, everyone wants to know McGregor's upcoming role. Given that the production team never really comments on rumors or reveals information before an upcoming season, fans might not find out from the network until it launches season 7 next year. But rumors are suggesting that Conor will be portraying a character that is set to go against The Mountain, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson.

A past video of the pair's sparring session resurfaced recently when rumors about the pair started circulating. Even McGregor looks so puny when placed next to the Icelandic strongman. Reports say that McGregor was headhunted by HBO, since one of the directors for the upcoming season is a big fan of the MMA fighter.

It is to be noted that the production team is currently filming some scenes in Dublin, which is McGregor's hometown.

Aside from the paparazzi photos and the recent sightings of the cast and crew filming, little is known about the upcoming season. HBO recently launched a brand-new teaser for season 7, which boldly announced that "Winter has come."

"Game of Thrones" season 7 is expected to return to HBO in the summer of 2017.
