Prior to the latest announcement, various rumors about the show were circulating online. Fans who weren't too confident about the renewal even started petitions, hoping that Disney will give the show another shot. More recently, actor Rider Strong teased that the show is ending. And shortly after, "Girl Meets World" writers defended the show, tweeting that it wasn't canceled yet.

Unfortunately, just days after the confusing statements released by the members of the production team, the network came forth and announced that "Girl Meets World" ends in season 3.

After the writers relayed the news, the cast members of the spin-off series Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter, who portray Riley Matthews and Maya Hart, respectively, bid their goodbyes on Instagram.

The young actresses both expressed that they are happy and sad at the same time. Both of them wrote lengthy messages, conveying their gratefulness and happiness for the opportunity.

"We are proud that for over 70 episodes, Michael Jacobs, April Kelly and the talented creative team, cast and crew entertained viewers with an authentic and heartfelt look at navigating adolescence," Disney said in a statement.

A lot of fans were starting to get suspicious since it was revealed that the final episode for the season is titled "Girl Meets Goodbye."

In the spin-off of "Boy Meets World," many of the original cast members of the show reprised their roles, including William Daniels, Will Friedle, Lee Norris, and Rider Strong.

"Girl Meets World" returned with an hour-long episode titled "World Meets Girl" on Friday, Jan. 6 on the Disney channel. Meanwhile, the final episode of "Girl Meets World," titled "Girl Meets Goodbye," airs this Jan. 20.
