GoPro Hero 5 latest rumors, updates: built-in GPS, touchscreen feature

(GoPro Official)GoPro Hero 5 is said to have a built-in GPS and touch screen feature.

GoPro continues to remain mum about its next action camera, the Hero 5. So far, what's known about the device is that it is the company's "most convenient and connected" device ever made and it will be out just in time for the holidays.

With the lack of updates from GoPro Inc., rumors continue to pile up. According to the latest reports, the Hero 5 will bear features that should make it stand out in the industry. As noted in a report from Engadget, these new features will even make action camera owners forget about the Hero 4.

One of the alleged new features of the Hero 5 is GPS support.

According to the publication, an FCC patent file referenced how the new action camera would be carrying GPS on-board. It remains to be seen how people will apply this feature but it is assumed that the GPS will be used for geolocation. The same file also suggests that the Hero 5 will have a thinner and more lightweight design.

Meanwhile, the Hero 5 is also said to come with a touchscreen feature, according to a leaked video (shown below) from Konrad Iturbe. According to Iturbe, who talked to Mashable, the nine-second clip was of a concept device that the company may still be testing and was taken from the GoPro app. Iturbe thinks that someone working closely with the Hero 5 may have unintentionally leaked the video.

Apart from a touchscreen, the Hero 5 will also have a remote and Sniper – the latter feature is like a microphone attached to the device – but it remains uncertain as of this moment. In addition, the concept video also showed information about the camera like the frame rate details and resolution. As seen in the video, the camera only has 1080-pixel resolution, which is odd since the Hero 4 Black is already capable of recording 4K videos.

Since GoPro already said that the launch for the Hero 5 is scheduled for this year, fans won't have to wait long to see if the concept video and the rumored features of the upcoming action camera hold true.
