"Gran Turismo" is undeniably one of the premiere racing video game franchises out in the market, giving birth to numerous reiterations and providing gamers with countless hours of enjoyment. Despite numerous new video game titles, interest in the game still hasn't abated, as fans are currently waiting for the release of "Gran Turismo 7."

Unfortunately, fans might have to wait longer than expected as Sony seems to be focused on "Gran Turismo Sport." The game was announced during Paris Game Week, which was held in late October. This actually caused some confusion among fans who were expecting to hear about "Gran Turismo 7," and thought that "Gran Turismo Sport" was actually just the sequel with a new name.

But Sony quickly cleared the air and clarified that the two titles were different. According to Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's president and CEO Jim Ryan said that the company was "not announcing 'Gran Turismo 7' at this stage." Unfortunately, he also couldn't provide a release date for the highly-anticipated game.

Even though it's not the game they're expecting, fans can still get a lot of enjoyment out of "Gran Turismo Sport," as the game is said to have three distinct modes, the "Campaign," the "Arcade Mode" and the "Sports Mode."

But for fans who are still clamouring for "Gran Turismo 7," there have been reports that the game might be out by 2017. Reports say that the game's developers are indeed working towards a 2017 release or earlier. There are even talks of a beta version next year.

Of course, there will always be those who remain skeptical about the game hitting its proposed released date, given that "Gran Turismo 6" experienced delays. However, Ryan allayed these fears and said in the Eurogamer report that the company is confident that "Gran Turismo" producer Kazunori Yamauchi will be able to deliver the game as promised.
