'Grimm' season 5 episode 2 sees Trubel back but in bad shape; Nick warns Capt. Renard that war is coming
She might have appeared in just a handful of "Grimm" episodes but there's no denying that Trubel is an important member of Team Grimm. Her kidnapping at the hands of FBI Agent Chavez pushed Nick to hunt down and capture the scheming wesen. The trailer for episode two of "Grimm" season five shows Nick's protégé returning, but in a very bad state.
"Grimm" season five picked up immediately after the events of last season, with the premiere's opening scene a recap of Trubel (Jacquiline Toboni) shooting Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) before masked individuals stormed the house, drugging Nick (David Giuntoli) and kidnapping the young Grimm. When Nick came to, all traces of Trubel, Juliette's body and his mom's head had disappeared. This set off the Grimm and he started hunting down Chavez (Elizabeth Rodruguez) in a bid to save Trubel.
Despite a truncated story arc, Trubel's story is one of the more compelling ones of the series. Her transformation - from a scared but feisty runaway to Nick's confident and street smart protégé - has been vital to the series, much in the same way as Monroe's (Silas Weir Mitchell) friendship with Nick has been. It also doesn't hurt that she brings a strong female presence to the show, much in the same way Kelly Burkhardt's (Mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio) character did.
Viewers have so far been kept in the dark as to where Trubel is and why Chavez took her, but episode two might give some answers.
A trailer for the upcoming episode, "Clear and Wesen Danger," starts with Nick telling Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) that they're coming to Portland and that they should prepare for war. The warning that "the world they know is about to end" seems to be coming true as the clip shows Wu (Reggie Lee) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) investigating a bloody bathroom and Nick's partner looking at a mirror, with the claw mark symbol clearly seen in blood. There are also brief glimpses of people being attacked, Rosalee (Bree Turner) warning them that they're walking into a trap and Nick shooting someone clad in black.
The clip ends with Trubel apparently walking or signaling to Nick, but she's bloody, hurt and weak.
One scene from the trailer, which showed a woman warning (or taunting) Nick that "not even a Grimm can stop what's coming," appears to embody the tone for the whole season.
No one knows what exactly is coming but "Grimm" showrunners had teased during the pre-season that there will be a Wesen uprising and it will start in Portland.
Episode two of "Grimm" season five is set to air on Nov. 6.
