'High School Musical 4' cast news: Zac Efron willing to do another 'High School Musical'
There's no question that literally a whole generation of teens was raised on "High School Musical." Now, Disney wants to introduce a new generation to the power of music and the idea of staying through to oneself.
The Disney Channel formally announced earlier this month that "High School Musical 4" is officially a go and that the network has already started working on the latest installation of the popular franchise.
Acording to E! Online, Disney Channel president Gary Marsh described "High School Musical" as part of the channel's DNA.
"As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise," Marsh stated.
The new musical will certainly be headed to new territory as original characters Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), Sharpay Evans (Ahley Tisdale), Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel), Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu), and Taylor McKessie (Monique Coleman) all graduated from high school in "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."
Disney has since launched a nationwide casting call for the upcoming "High School Musical" installation. What makes things more exciting is the fact that not only will a new group of Wildcats be introduced, but the show will also be introducing East High's counterpart — the West High Knights.
It's safe to say though that a lot of fans are wondering whether the show's original stars will return for the fourth film, even if it's for a cameo.
There are speculations that Efron and Hudgens might not be willing to return to the show, given the bad blood that's reportedly between the two ever since their breakup. However, Hudgens and the rest of the cast reunited for the movie's 10th-year anniversary. Efron was noticeably missing, as he was busy promoting the movie "Dirty Grandpa" and shooting the "Neighbors" sequel. And with his involvement in the "Baywatch" movie, some are thinking that the star might be too busy for another round of singing and dancing.
However, Efron told E! in a previous interview that he would "100%" do another "High School Musical" movie if asked, adding that he and the rest of the cast were "all thinking about it."
"I continue to see all the guys from 'High School,'" Efron added. "Every time we do...there's just this look between us. It's so cool because we never forget a single moment of that experience."
That certainly is good news for "High School Musical" fans. However, they would have to wait for an official announcement from Disney before they start celebrating.
