'High School Musical 4' cast rumors: Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens to return?

(Facebook/High School Musical)"High School Musical 4" is said to introduce new cast members but will also include former casts for transition. Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are the ones most speculated to make an appearance.

When news of a fourth sequel to the movie "High School Musical" was announced, actor Zac Efron's and actress Vanessa Hudgens' names immediately came to mind. The ex-lovers played the lead roles in the previous installments and, while no official confirmation about their return has been made, people continue to speculate on their involvement.

Efron and Hudgens played two unlikely lovers on the show and they fell in love while doing the project. They quickly endeared themselves to the fans individually and, more so, as a couple known as "Zanessa." Their breakup was one of the Hollywood splits that broke the hearts of many and, though years have passed, fans continue to hope for both reel and real-life reunion.

At the moment, Efron is known to have broken up with his publicized girlfriend but is now being rumored to date pop star Taylor Swift. On the other hand, Hudgens is still very much in a relationship with singer-actor Austin Butler.

There have been rumors that Austin does not approve of his girlfriend working with her former boyfriend and this has said to lead the plot to adjust accordingly. It is said that Troy and Gabriela, who Efron and Hudgens portray respectively, will either break up or have been estranged when "High School Musical 4" is shown.

However, there are rumors that also suggest that Troy and Gabriela will get married within the installment. Although much attention is given to the unconfirmed involvement of Efron and Hudgens, a whole new cast will be introduced to continue the movie's legacy.

As Disney Channel president Gary Marsh has said, "'High School Musical' is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise."

No premiere date for the movie has been set yet.
