'Homeland' season 5 news and spoilers: Can Carrie and Saul mend their relationship?

During the season 5 premiere of "Homeland," viewers were able to see Carrie's new life in Berlin. For the past two years, she has been happily content with living a simple life, taking care of her daughter and working a stable and safe job. However, it was obvious that Carrie's new life didn't involve people from her past.
Carrie (Claire Danes) has spent the past two years estranged from her mentor, Saul. After the events of last season, she felt betrayed by her mentor and ultimately walked away from the CIA.
"Saul has become a real company man and Carrie rejected the company," Danes said.
Based on the season premiere, it is clear that their relationship has been damaged and the two are not even on speaking terms. The deterioration of their relationship may have been due to Carrie's role in derailing Saul's bid for the CIA directorship.
Showrunner Alex Gansa revealed that during the vetting process, Carrie was asked by the committee to testify on behalf of Saul. The committee asked her about the time he was a prisoner. Carrie, out of concern, felt that her mentor's time as a prisoner had affected him deeply and that he may not have been in his right mind to lead the CIA.
"She didn't tank his bid necessarily, but she didn't help him along the way," Gansa said.
During the past two years, Saul has recovered and is now the European division chief.
"He's got plenty of responsibility. And he's continuing to do the work that he's always done," Gansa added.
Unfortunately, things have remained sour and tense between him and Carrie.
By the end of the season 5 premiere, it became clear that Carrie's peaceful life was coming to an end as she has found herself in the middle of an escalating international crisis. This will lead her to cross paths with her former colleagues at the CIA. As she becomes entangled once more in the life she thought she left behind, will she be able to reconcile with Saul?
