Huawei Mate 8 vs Lumia 950 XL: Metal body of the Mate 8 gives it an edge

With the Huawei Mate 8 due to land in many countries throughout the world soon, it is time to discover how the phablet stacks up against the all new Lumia 950 XL that was released by Microsoft last year. Here is how these two smartphones compare in a face off.

Design

Here, the advantage lies with the Mate 8 as it has a full metal body and it is made from aluminum, which gives it a premium look and feel. There is also a fingerprint scanner onboard the smartphone and it is positioned at the back of the device, where it can be used to quickly unlock it. As for colors, the device has four options: gold, silver, gray and brown.

Coming to the Lumia 950 XL, it is a smaller device but its build is a letdown as it's chiefly made from polycarbonate and it has almost has no metal on it. There is also no fingerprint scanner on the device but its infrared camera allows for the recognition of irises and faces. Finally, in terms of colors, there are only two options: white and black.

Display

The display on the Lumia 950 XL is slightly smaller and its AMOLED screen measures 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch. As for the Mate 8, it has an LCD screen measuring 6.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 368 pixels per inch.

Specs

There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset on board the Lumia 950 XL and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the Mate 8, it has the latest HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, which is faster, and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.

Memory

When it comes to memory slots, the version on the Lumia 950 XL supports up to 200 GB while the slot on the Mate 8 supports up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the device from Microsoft has 3 GB onboard and the Mate 8 has either 3 GB or 4 GB.

Camera

Here, the 20 megapixel camera on the Lumia 950 XL gives it an edge over the 16 megapixel version on the Mate 8.

Price

In this category, the Lumia 950 XL costs $650 unlocked, while the Huawei Mate 8 could cost $643 unlocked.
