Nintendo's 'Hyrule Warriors' release date is due on Sept. 26 in North America, but is already topping charts in Europe where it was launched over the weekend. The game debuted at number three on the UK charts, just behind 'Destiny' and 'Disney Infinity 2.0.'

Early reviews could not help but to compare the game with the classic mega hit 'The Legend of Zelda,' especially seeing as many of the Hyrule Warriors characters come straight out of the older action-adventure game series.

"And although it's not a traditional Zelda adventure, there's plenty here for the Zeldaconnoisseur, from famous characters and villains to settings familiar from the franchise's history, as well as the wrongdoings of new villain Cia," wrote Chris Ding of The Guardian.

Fansided's Ted Schwerzler thinks that the video game can be a good option while waiting for the next Zelda title to arrive next year:

"For fans of the Legend of Zelda series, there is enough here to draw you in. Hyrule Warriors won't wow anyone, but those looking for a Dynasty Warriors type experience with a Zelda makeover, the game is worth checking out."

Polygon puts it in a different way:

"Instead of the traditional puzzle-solving and exploration focus of the Zelda games,Hyrule Warriors features hack-and-slash gameplay that defines titles like Dynasty Warriors. As a sort of mash-up, Hyrule Warriors takes that action gameplay and layers on top settings, characters and themes lifted from nearly three decades of Zelda history."

As the game readies to sweep the US gaming landscape this Friday, Nintendo of America announced four new Hyrule Warrior DLC packs.

Purchasing a Season Pass for $19.99 will also get players a bonus Dark Link costume.

There are no details as to what are enclosed in the Hyrule Warrior DLC add-ons, but there is a big likelihood that these will be based on previous Zelda games.

Playable Hyrule Warriors characters include Link, Impa, Zelda, Lana, Sheik, Darunia, Ruto, Midna, Agitha, Fi, Zant, Ghirahim and Ganondorf.

Nintendo plans to support Hyrule Warrios for the "long run," and the first confirmation of this is the free Day-One DLC in October.
