'Indiana Jones 5' news, plot rumors: Disney to incorporate interconnected timelines

(Facebook/Indiana Jones)"Indiana Jones 5" is set to be released in July 2019.

The next "Indiana Jones" installment is set to be immersed in a plotline that could set the entire franchise with more storylines in the fold.

In an exclusive interview with THR, Disney's CEO Bob Iger revealed, "Right now, we're focused on a reboot, or a continuation and then a reboot of some sort. We'll bring [Harrison] Ford back, then we have to figure out what comes next. That's what I mean. It's not really a reboot, it's a boot—a reboot. I don't know."

Meanwhile, Collider also confirms through a statement by Industrial Light & Magic president Lynwen Brennan during the Star Wars Celebration Europe's "The Art of Storytelling" panel that Disney is brewing, although still in development stage, a new cinematic universe that is akin to Marvel and the "Star Wars" franchise. Brennan added that her group may be providing the same treatment to the future "Indiana Jones" installments.

While all of these are still in the works, it is safe to say that the Story Group, which is in charge of the story developments for "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones," is developing a plotline that would get the whip-and-hat-strapping franchise a long-term plot viability along with a strong longevity. As such, this quashes rumors that the next installment would be the last for the company as Ford would be 77 years old during the release.

"Indiana Jones 5" was set in motion back in March when director Steven Spielberg confirmed that he would be working with Ford for the installment. While the Lucasfilm-owned franchise is gearing up for its next entry for its enduring and iconic character, one might also speculate that the anticipated "boot or reboot" is way off from its completion.

"Indiana Jones 5" is set for a theatrical release on July 2019 worldwide.
