'Iron Man 4' news: Fourth movie confirmed!

(Marvel Studios)

With the sheer number of productions Marvel Studios have lined up, it seems like their once blockbuster has been put in the backburner. Robert Downey Jr., the actor who plays "Iron Man," have strengthened rumors when he revealed in an interview with Variety that there has been no talk of another instalment for the franchise. It seems like Downey however has had a change of heart as recently he confirmed that an "Iron Man 4" would indeed be happening.

In an interview with Ellen Degeneres as reported by Coming Soon, the 'Sherlock Holmes' star hesitantly revealed that the cast and crew are still ironing out negotiations

"I know there's going to be a bunch more Marvel movies. And they have big ideas of how to do it best and we're in the middle of negotiation..."

Upon Ellen's further pressing, he gave in and exclaimed a joyous yes:

"Okay, yes!"

More recently in a report by Realty Today, Shane Black, the director of Iron Man 3, has also been confirmed to be the director of the upcoming movie. Despite previous news of Ty Simpkins replacing Downey as "Iron Man," Black has also since reassured fans that the upcoming feature would indeed include Robert Downy Jr. In his reprisal of the iconic superhero role.

"Iron Man 4" however will not be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe outline until after the Marvel Phase 3. It would take place in the context after the destructive attack of Ultron on Earth which would fragment the Avengers forcing new superheroes like Doctor Strange, Black Panther Spiderman, Thanos and Captain Marvel to arise.

Even though that Iron Man 4 is still a very long way ahead, Iron Man will still be seen at Captain America: Civil War where he will make a cross over and of course, in Avengers 3.

"Iron Man 4" is scheduled to be released sometime in 2019.
