Robert Downey Jr. has always kept mum on the development of Iron Man movies, until now that is, after he spilled a news update on the possible upcoming 'Iron Man 4' release date.

"I'm sure we'll ride that thing. You've got to surf that all the way in to shore," the actor said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter, commenting positively on the existence of an Iron Man 4 movie.

This is the first affirmative comment the actor has released regarding Iron Man 4, with him saying that there will be no follow-up in past interviews.

Downey Jr. is probably one of the biggest influencers of the sudden superhero movie boom during the pilot movie for Iron Man.

The movie, including the sequel and the third movie, grossed over $2 billion combined in box office sales around the globe. The actor continues to play his role of Tony Stark in the current Avengers franchise, with a second film, 'Age of Ultron' nearing its release next year.

"I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That's the healthy way to look at it. It's so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are are long, strong trends. It's just another wave," Downey Jr. told Hollywood Reporter in the interview.

The actor graces the cover of the upcoming October 10 issue of Hollywood Reporter along with his wife Susan.
