'Iron Man 4' update: Still no certainty on movie; Tony Stark to mentor Peter Parker in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'

(Facebook/Avengers)Is there still a chance for Robert Downey Jr. to star anew in another solo "Iron Man" movie?

Although the fate of "Iron Man 4," starring Robert Downey Jr., is still up in the air, it has been long confirmed that the actor is reprising his Tony Stark/Iron Man role for Tom Holland's upcoming solo "Spider-Man: Homecoming" movie to mentor the young web-squirting superhero.

As of this writing, there is still no official statement whether Downey Jr. is top-billing another solo "Iron Man" movie. While there are numerous rumors that his chances to star in "Iron Man 4" is dim, many fans of the actor are hoping that a fourth solo "Iron Man" movie to star the actor anew will be made. Despite the uncertainty, though, one thing is confirmed: Downey Jr. is taking part in the upcoming solo "Spider-Man" movie of Holland, and it is expected that he will mentor the young superhero.

It can be recalled that the two superheroes developed a bond in last May's blockbuster "Captain America: Civil War," where the returning superhero to Marvel took the side of the iron-clad superhero in his clash against Captain America (Chris Evans).

Last month, Downey Jr. even posted on his Twitter account a photo of him along with Holland and some other people included in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which led some people into believing that the cameras might have already started rolling for Downey Jr.'s participation in "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

However, some months ago, there were rumors that surfaced online claiming that Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark/Iron Man character would be killed-off in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" so that, allegedly, Marvel Studios can usher in a new actor to play the character in the movies. With Marvel not releasing any official word on whether Downey Jr. is starring in another solo "Iron Man" movie, there are still some people who believe that this may really be the case.

In March, Downey Jr. said in an in interview that the then-upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" was already a sort of "Iron Man 4" for him. With still no announcement from Marvel on the possibility of an "Iron Man 4" starring Downey, Jr. once more, could it be that "Spider-Man: Homecoming" will be the actor's swan song for his Tony Stark character?

"I don't think that's in the cards. In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4 and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes," Downey told USA Today in March when asked about "Iron Man 4."

"Spider-Man: Homecoming" is slated to arrive in theaters in June next year.
