'Legends of Tomorrow' cast news: Johnathon Schaech cast as Jonah Hex; series to introduce Rip Hunter's mentor, Zaman Druce

It's all systems go for the launch of "Legends of Tomorrow." The highly anticipated "Arrow" and "The Flash" spinoff will not only provide a venue for the popular heroes and pseudo-villains of the two shows, it will also be introducing staples of the DC Universe like Jonah Hex.
IGN reported that The CW has cast Ray Donovan's Johnathon Schaech as Jonah Hex. The network described the character as "a true legend of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger."
Hex is a popular character in the DC Comics universe but has unfortunately not been adapted well in films. The 2010 "Jonah Hex" film reportedly drew in only a little under $11 million in the box office worldwide and was panned by critics. Hopefully, the character would fare better in the small screen.
"Legends of Tomorrow" showrunner Marc Guggenheim previously announced that the character would make an appearance in the series, although the role hadn't been cast at the time. Guggenheim said that they were "eager to do a story set in the Old West," which won't be farfetched considering the show will be doing a lot of time traveling. And as the producer pointed out, if one is to do a story set in DC's version of the Old West, then Jonah Hex must be in it.
Schaech has reportedly signed on as a guest star in the series, with the option to become a recurring character. Jonah Hex will reportedly make his debut in episode 11 of the spinoff.
Aside from Hex, "Legends of Tomorrow" will also be introducing Zaman Druce, a respected member of the Time Council and Rip Hunter's (Arthur Darvill) mentor. Cinema Blend reported that "Homeland" alum Martin Donovan will be portraying Druce, a highly experienced Time Master tasked to track down Rip and convince him and his team to stop their attempts to put an end to Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). The character will reportedly be making his debut on the show's fourth episode, "White Knights." And like Jonah Hex, there's a chance that Druce will also be a recurring character.
The pilot episode of "Legends of Tomorrow" will air on Jan. 21.
