'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2: Maisie Richardson-Sellers joins cast as an earlier version of Vixen

After it was reported that the big bad in the upcoming season 2 of "Legends of Tomorrow" will be revealed slowly as the season progresses, the same thing cannot be said about the good guys who will lend their presence to the upcoming season of the show. After it was recently confirmed that Nick Zano will be joining the cast of the time-traveling superheroes as Citizen Steel, it has also been learned that another DC superhero is being added to the show — Vixen — who will be played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers.
Reports reveal that Richardson-Sellers will be playing the role of Amaya Jiwe, the grandmother of Vixen, who was played by Megalyn EK in an episode on another DC series on The CW, "Arrows."
When it was rumored earlier that Vixen might be ushered in to "Legends of Tomorrow," many expected that EK would reprise the role she earlier portrayed on "Arrow." However, according to TV Insider, EK's prior show biz commitments prevent her from donning the Vixen costume anew. Nonetheless, she will continue to lend her voice to the same character on the animated show of the character shown on The CW Seed.
Vixen is a DC superhero character whose power is to mainly mimic the strength and abilities of animals. She can be as ferocious as a tiger, heavy as an elephant, and have all the powerful attributes of animals with the help of a family heirloom necklace that summons the powers she wishes and needs.
In the "Justice League: Unlimited" animated series that ran on the Cartoon Network from 2004 to 2006, Vixen and Hawkgirl vied for the attention of John Stewart a.k.a. Green Lantern.
Although viewers are more familiar with the present-day Vixen, who is also known as Mari McCabe, some can't help but wonder how Richardson-Seller's Amaya Jiwe character will be woven into the story. In the comic book version of the character, though, the young Amaya Jiwe has the same powers with those of her granddaughter. With the time-traveling nature of the series, there shouldn't be a problem for her to contribute her powers to the team of superheroes as they battle the big bad guy in the series, whoever it may be, and whatever timeline they may visit.
"Legends of Tomorrow" returns to The CW for its season 2 this Oct. 13.
