LG G Pad x8.3 vs. iPad Mini 3: G Pad x8.3 steals Mini 3's thunder

There are a number of new tablets that were released this year and among the devices that are taking on Apple and its iPad Mini 3 is the LG G Pad x8.3. Here is how these two tablets compare.

Design

Comparing the design of the two devices, it is clear that the Mini 3 has an advantage as it comes with a full metal body crafted from aluminum and its corners are rounded to give it a good feel in the hand. It also has a fingerprint scanner which is missing on its competitor. It is available in three colors, silver, gold and space gray.

As for the G Pad x8.3, it has aluminum on its back panel and it comes with a metallic finish with sides that made of plastic which has a soft finish. However, this design means it is pretty easy to hold even though is corners are much more shaper than that of its competitor.

Display

The 8.3 inch IPS display on the device from LG comes with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 265 pixels per inch. As for the Mini 3, it has an IPS LCD capacitive screen measuring 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 324 pixels per inch.

Specs

The G Pad x8.3 is ahead as it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, along with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 405 GPU. In the iPad Mini 3 is an Apple A7 chipset, a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and a PowerVR G6430 GPU.

Memory

There is 2GB of RAM on the G Pad x8.3 and its memory slot can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. As for the iPad Mini 3, it has 1 GB RAM and does not have a memory slot.

Price

The iPad Mini 3 with 16 GB of onboard storage costs $400 while the LG G Pad x8.3 costs $299 without a contract from Verizon; with a two-year contract, it is priced at $79.99.
