'Man of Steel 2' plot rumors: Brainiac to challenge Superman's Kryptonian power

As it is now confirmed that Henry Cavill is suiting up once more as Superman for another "Man of Steel" movie, various rumors and speculations have surfaced as to who the character's main opponent will be. While it's true that there is a good roster of villains from the DC Universe that can be pitted against the Man of Steel for his second solo movie, rumors claiming that it will be no less than Brainiac who will challenge Superman's Kryptonian might are becoming more persistent.
While it's true that Cavill had been rumored to star in another "Man of Steel" movie, it was only recently when it was finally confirmed that the buzz going around is not just a speculation but is true after all after his agent Dany Garcia verified it in an interview.
"We've been in a five-month period of time where (Cavill is) re-strategizing, acquiring property [for his production company Promethean), he's filming ('Justice League') now, he's in development for the 'Superman' standalone... he's beginning to expand that world. It's beautifully teed up. In a year from now, or two years from now, he's going to be a force globally," Garcia revealed to Newsweek.
Now that there's no stopping Cavill from top-billing another solo "Man of Steel" movie, fans can't help but speculate as to who will his Superman character will be battling on the big screen this time. As he already faced off with General Zod in the first "Man of Steel" and Doomsday in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," it is now believed that he will take on one of his most formidable opponents ever, Brainiac, in "Man of Steel 2."
In fact, prior to the confirmation of "Man of Steel 2," there were already rumors claiming that Superman will face Brainiac twice: in space and on Earth. Allegedly, the Man of Steel will fight Brainiac first in his spaceship, where his cousin Supergirl is held captive. However, as Martian Manhunter will run after Brainiac for abducting his family and fellow Martians, Brainiac finds his way to Earth where he will battle Superman once more along with other Justice League members.
As of this writing, there is still no official word as to when "Man of Steel 2" will arrive in theaters. However, as Warner Bros. has secured two showing dates for two still unnamed movies, it is likely that the sequel will be shown either in 2018 or 2019.
