Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date June or October? newest 2-in-1 tablet to come with improved specs

(Microsoft)Will the Surface Pro 4 successor arrive later this year?

Microsoft's Surface Pro 2-in-1 tablets have inarguably been one of the most exciting and innovative releases in recent years. The Surface Pro 4, released last October, has been dubbed as a "laptop killer" and has risen to be the standard in terms of 2-in-1 devices. With this kind of success, recent reports suggest that Microsoft is already in the early stages of developing its successor — the Surface Pro 5.

Current rumors suggest that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be released either this June or October. The Surface Pro 3 was unveiled last May 2015 and released a month later. The Surface Pro 4, on the other hand, had an October unveiling and release date. However, given the state of development, an October release date would be more probable. Regardless of specific release month, it looks like consumers will be able to start purchasing their new Surface Pro just a month after it will be unveiled.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is rumored to feature a larger display with a 4K resolution, improved battery life, a fingerprint sensor, and a new stylus.

According to Patently Mobile, Microsoft has filed a patent for a rechargeable Surface Pen to replace the current AAA battery-powered stylus. The Surface Pro 5 may also come with a stylus dock to prevent the Surface Pen from being misplaced or lost when not in use. Based on the patent, the Surface Pen and dock will be connected using magnetic force.

With regard to pricing, the Surface Pro 5 will likely have a similar price tag to the current Surface Pro 4 tablet. Pricing for the Surface Pro 4 starts at $899.

At this time, Microsoft has yet to officially announce the Surface Pro 5. Given the lack of official updates, readers are advised to take caution with the details that are currently being reported. These will still be subject to change in the coming months.
