Moto X Play vs Nexus 5X: Motorola device offers better customizable

With the Motorola choosing to release a cheaper version of its flagship phablet in the form of the Moto X Play and providing it with a bigger battery, the device now has the ability to stand up to other offerings such as the Nexus 5X. Here is how these devices compare.

Design

When it comes to design, the Moto X Play comes with several advantages such a metal frame. However, its default front and back are made from plastic but its back can be customized with a variety of colored panels made from silicone and customers can also choose colored metal accents. However, the device does not have a fingerprint scanner. As for the Nexus 5X, it has a body that is made entirely of polycarbonate so it does not have a premium look and feel however its build is sturdy and it feels substantial in hand. It comes in three colors: ice, quartz, and carbon. There is also a fingerprint scanner positioned as it rear.

Display

The Moto X Play has a slight advantage as it has a 5.5 inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 403 pixels per inch. As for the Nexus 5X, it has a smaller capacitive screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, and density of 424 pixels per inch.

Specs

The Nexus 5X is in the lead as it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset, along with a hexa-core CPU composed of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.44 GHz and two Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.82 GHz along with an Adreno 418 GPU. As for the Moto X Play it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, coupled with a octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and four clocked at 1.0 GHz along with an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The memory slot on the Moto X Play allows for the addition of up to 128 GB of external storage, while the Nexus 5X does not have a slot and so storage cannot be tacked on. As for RAM-- each device has 2 GB onboard.

Price

The Moto X Play could be rebranded and launched in the US with a price tag between $300-350 in its unlocked form, while the Nexus 5X has a price tag of $380 unlocked.
