The first season ended with Escobar's escape from La Catedral where he was detained for over a year. La Catedral was a prison built to his specifications as it was part of the agreement formed with the Columbia government to facilitate his arrest. The prison was referred to as "Hotel Escobar" and "Club Medellin" as well because of the luxury found in the structure. It has a soccer field, bar, Jacuzzi, and waterfall among others.

Escobar chose the guards himself as well, which enabled him to do his illegal business from "behind bars." However, when two of his associates failed to go out after a visit, the government tried to talk him into transferring into another prison so they could inspect the place. The negotiations resulted in a hostage taking, which eventually led to a shootout. Escobar managed to escape with some of his men.

Season 2 will deal with the life of Escobar after his escape until the time of his death. The producers of the show have made it clear that the series was designed in such manner. The death scene of Escobar is a re-enactment based on witnesses account and pictures taken at the scene.

"Narcos" season 2 will be released on Netflix.
