'NCIS' season 14 spoilers, rumors: Is Tony DiNozzo to return?

(Facebook/NCIS)"NCIS" season 14 will be the first season without Tony DiNozzo, but there are three new characters for the viewers to meet.

Fans of actor Michael Weatherly and the series "NCIS" in general are still sad over his exit from the show last season. As season 14's premiere gets closer, many are still hoping to see him and there are rumors that he will make an appearance in at least one episode.

Weatherly has not portrayed Tony DiNozzo since the season started. TV Guide reports that DiNozzo's exit will lead to the promotion of Tim McGee (Sean Murray) to senior field agent. However, his career may not be the only that is going to experience change as unconfirmed reports say he is set to marry Delilah (Margo Harshman) within the season. The unconfirmed spoiler has led to speculations that Weatherly could make an appearance on their wedding day.

During last season's finale, DiNozzo found out that he has a daughter with Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) who died during a blast. Aside from announcing his exit early this year, previous episodes have began to show him reach a crossroad in his life. His last day was sad but not as surprising for the viewers when he decided to leave his job to take care of the baby.

In an interview with TV Insider, the actor revealed that after 13 years of being on the show, "I would look around the room and other people were really in sync and having fun. The show was a huge success, but I just suddenly realized that I probably had other things that I should be doing. And then the wanderlust set in. I directed a documentary. I have a production company. And I wanted to spend time with my family."

Meanwhile, "NCIS" season 14 premiere will see the team investigate a car explosion that leads to the discovery of an agent who was thought to be dead six months ago. Three new cast members will be introduced in the episode.

"NCIS" season 14 premieres on Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
