Nexus 6 release date: Verizon first out to offer Google phone, price, specs

The release date of Google's killer bet for flagship phablets, a Nexus 6 with bigger specs and price, will be unveiled on Oct. 15 or sooner, according to several reports.

"Among the latest round of rumors about the upcoming Nexus, the availability ones seem to be getting quite the momentum of late. One of them claims that Google has scored a deal with Verizon and the largest carrier will be offering the Nexus 6 in its fall/winter device portfolio," Phone Arena's Peter K writes.

If the report is accurate, the Nexus 6 would be the first device in Google's homegrown series that Verizon will adopt since Samsung Galaxy Nexus CDMA was introduced in 2011.

Nexus 6 price and release date are still a unknown as of press time.

Last week, Android Police posted photos of what could be a Motorola-made Nexus 6 being used by somebody while commuting. From these images, there appeared to be a speaker at the bottom portion and a display size around 5.9-inch.

While the Motorola name was dropped by this supposed leak, Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Google has in fact rekindled its partnership with HTC for the next Nexus tablet.

"Google selected HTC over more experienced tablet makers like Samsung to make its upcoming 9-inch Nexus tablet, people familiar with the matter said. HTC engineers have been flying to the Googleplex in Mountain View in recent months to work on the project," Wall Street Journal reports.

Apple, Inc., Google's fiercest competitor in the mobile OS arena, launched the iPhone 6 and the bulkier iPhone 6 Plus nearly a month ago, which has since taken the world by storm.

Today, there have been reports stating that sales of Apple's latest flagship smartphones have reached and exceeded 20 million units in less than three weeks.
