After the immense success of "Now You See Me" and its sequel "Now You See Me: The Second Act," it is not surprising that Lionsgate is pushing for a third installment to create a film trilogy that will reunite most of the original cast members. Most recent rumors suggest that "Doctor Strange" lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch is coming on board for a guest role in the third installment.

While the film's executives have not confirmed the possible inclusion of Cumberbatch in the new movie, it is highly likely that Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman will reprise their roles. Isla Fisher who played Henley Reeves in the original film, was replaced by Lizzy Caplan in the second installment. Daniel Radcliffe joined the magician-heist film in "Now You See Me: The Second Act" as Walter.

The two films center around the scheming plots of four magicians made up of Eisenberg, Harrelson, Franco, and Fisher who was later replaced by Caplan. The criminal call themselves The Four Horsemen.

Their criminal intent is often directed toward banks or wealthy individuals who do not deserve their good fortune. Ruffalo plays a detective supposedly committed to arresting members of the Horsemen. However, it was revealed in the original film that he was also responsible for bringing the four magicians together.

Meanwhile, Jon M. Chu is confirmed to return to direct the third installment of the trilogy. Variety previously reported that Lionsgate already closed the deal with Chu two months before "Now You See Me: The Second Act" was released in theaters last June 9.

The studio reportedly believes that working hand in hand with Chu - who is also known for his work on "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in 2013, "Step Up 2: The Streets" in 2008, and "Step Up 3D" in 2010 – will guarantee the same range of success as the original film which earned $351.7 million in revenues.

Gavin James and Neil Widener are writing the sequel for the third movie in the trilogy. James and Widener are fast becoming one of Hollywood's most sought after screenplay writers after their impressive work in "San Andreas 2" for New Line Cinema that starred Dwayne Johnson according to Deadline. The article also mentioned that the two talented writers also just concluded their work on "Battle of Alcatraz" for Paramount Pictures.

Lionsgate has yet to announce the official release date of "Now You See Me 3." Speculations suggest it may hit the big screen either in late 2018 or first quarter of 2019.
