'Orange Is the New Black' season 5 news, updates, rumors: HBO to take over if Netflix cancels the hit series?

(Twitter/Orange is the New Black)What happens to the Litchfield stars when 'Orange is the New Black' returns for its 5th season? Will the show be cancelled after the fifth season?

Netflix has proven over the past years that no hit series is safe within its grounds, and recently, "Orange Is the New Black" has been in the center of cancellation talks.

Recent reports suggest that after "Orange Is the New Black" season 5, Netflix may decide to axe the series. The rumors stem from alleged creative differences between the showrunners and some of the show's main cast members.

It is also said that Donald Trump's rise in power may affect the run of the fifth season. Trump has implied during his campaign that he has issues with the LGBT community and some critics pointed out that "OITNB" may need to fix some of its storylines to put the show in line with the new U.S. president's standards.

Rumor also has it that if Netflix decides to cut the series after "Orange Is the New Black" season 5, HBO may step up to the plate to save the show. The channel is one of the longest-running names in the industry and it may be able to salvage the series if things fall apart behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, fans are looking forward to which resolution the show will take, following the cliffhanger in season 4. Daya (Dascha Polanco) pointed a gun at Corrections Officer Humphrey's (Michael Torpey) head and she may need to face some bitter consequences when the show returns for its fifth installment.

It is further speculated that CO Humphrey may be the first victim of death when the series returns. He has been a fairly hated character and Daya may be coaxed by the rallying inmates to just pull the trigger. However, this scenario may also prove to be devastating for poor Daya. She may see her sentence prolonged or may be sent to the SHU.

Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date for "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 but fans expect the series to return sometime mid-2017.
