'Overwatch' DLC news: More free characters ad maps are in the plan

(Play Overwatch)More characters will be added to the current choices on "Overwatch" as well as maps.

Assistant game director Aaron Keller and game designer Scott Mercer attended Blizzard's recently held BlizzCon event where they got to talk about "Overwatch." Amid rumors that Sombra will be the last DLC to be released, they revealed that more characters and maps are in store for the game.

Sitting with Mirror UK, Mercer revealed, "More heroes are definitely part of the plan. We've got a lot of exciting ideas that we're working on. For us it's a matter of trying to find the right pace. We don't want to go too fast, overwhelm the community with so much change." While they do not want to go too fast, he also added that they do not want to do it so slowly either so as not to make the players feel that the game is not being updated enough.

When asked how long planning takes for each release, Keller shared, "We knew about Sombra for over, I think, a year at least. It's a long time." Brainstorming sessions take a lot of time until a decision is made. Developing becomes another thing.

Keller also said that BlizzCon is one way for them to show that they listen to and value their patrons. He said, "Players are usually always asking for one of three things: they want new heroes, new maps and new game modes. This is a really big BlizzCon for us because we announced all three of those. We have Sombra, we showed Oasis and also the new map in Arcade, Ecopoint Antarctica."

In related news, before Sombra was finally released, another character was rumored and speculated to be released ahead of her. Athena is the name of the A.I. software and also as the announcer on "Overwatch." An image of her even made the online rounds but, until now, the said character has not been launched yet. Could the players be seeing her soon?

For now, it is best to wait for Blizzard to make the official announcement.
