'Penny Dreadful' season 4 renewal not a possibility but a spin-off is?

(Facebook / Penny Dreadful)Season 4 is no longer possible for "Penny Dreadful" series, but hopes for a spin-off continue.

Season 3 of the series "Penny Dreadful" ended with the death of its main character, but fans are still hoping for a follow-up season. The show's executive producer, however, remains stern about his decision to end the show, but speculations have arose that a spin-off will happen instead.

The death scene of Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) was followed with the words "THE END" to the shock of its viewers. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer John Logan said, "I realized that's where the third season was going to head. It was going to head to Vanessa sacrificing herself and reuniting with God."

Logan was joined by Showtime CEO David Nevins who said that he always knew the show will not run for long as Logan informed them about it. Going into season 3, the CEO revealed, "John came in and said, 'This needs to be the end of Vanessa Ives. I know exactly how I want to end it. And when Vanessa Ives, when that character, is done, I think the show is done.'"

Nevins tried to convince Logan to stretch the series, but in the end, he ended up telling the showrunner, "You have to promise me that you're going to make an incredibly satisfying ending."

Still, many viewers refused to believe the series has ended just like that, but in an interview with Deadline, Logan was more definite in his reply, saying, "I can absolutely confirm it is really over, the end."

Since then, petitions to continue the story have made the rounds on the Internet. Netflix has not yet commented on the issue, but many remain hopeful because this request has not been denied yet. Hope is further fueled by Logan's statement in the same Deadline interview, saying that if Nevins comes to him in five years and talk about "Penny Dreadful," he would oblige.
