Thousands of "Pokemon GO" players descended on a park in Japan to try and capture the elusive Mewtwo. But there's a bit of a snag: It was all a simple hoax.

According to Kotaku, avid "Pokemon GO" players started arriving at Tsuruma Park in Nagoya, Japan when someone tweeted that Mewtwo could be found in the area. The park is known for its large water fountain, gazebo, various flowering plants, and the cherry blossoms that usually capture the interest of thousands of people during spring.

But this time around, people were less concerned with the cherry blossoms and more focused on Tsuruma Park's fountain area, which looks like a huge Poke Ball when seen from above.

Unfortunately, for those who braved the crowd, Mewtwo was a no-show, which shouldn't come as a surprise since this particular pocket monster is still unavailable to catch in the game. But it wasn't a total bust as some players were able to capture the likes of Blastoise, Gyarados, and Venusaur, which are pretty rare finds themselves.

The rest of the world might find it strange that people are so invested in finding this mythical Mewtwo, but Pokemon trainers know capturing this monster is a big feat. After all, Mewtwo is one of the most powerful creatures in the Pokemon world.

According to Bulbapedia, the encyclopedia for everything Pokemon, Mewtwo came from years of splicing Mew's DNA. Mew reportedly has the DNA of every Pokemon, a trait that was seemingly incorporated in Mewtwo. Aside from that, Mewtwo has been designed to be the best fighter and has the most ruthless heart of all the Pokemons.

While Mewtwo is currently not found in the game, it's only a matter of time before some lucky fellow stumbles onto this creature. Some are saying the creature might only appear during a big public event, while others believe that it will show up in Times Square, as "Pokemon GO's" trailer had teased.

What is clear, though, is that Mewtwo remains elusive as ever and players should just keep hunting and training until they become worthy of this mysterious but powerful Pokemon.
