'Pokémon Sun and Moon' news latest: Why the first global mission goal was missed; Battle of Alola registration ongoing

(Pokemon official website)Now that the first global mission has ended, players will be directing their attention to the Battle of Alola, "Pokemon Sun and Moon's" first online competition.

The first-ever global mission for "Pokémon Sun and Moon" has officially ended, and, unfortunately, the goal of hitting 100 million wild pokémon catches worldwide has been missed.

In Pokémon's Global Link website, it was officially announced that the 100-million mark wasn't reached. Some Twitter users felt it was a steep goal to begin with, while others were still hoping to reach the goal at the last minute, no matter how bleak it looked like.

The event ended with a tally of 16,423,231 caught pokémon, not even close to a quarter of the goal.

If one thinks of it, theoretically, the goal would have been easy to hit. The game sold over 3.7 million units in under two weeks since its release, so by doing the math, the goal could have been easy as pie if everyone caught at least two pokémon each every day during the duration period, which is from Nov. 29 to Dec. 12.

Perhaps everyone did catch more than two a day, but missed one important thing. The game needs to be synced in order for the catches to count, which by theory, may have not been done by some players. This then means that there were more that could have helped, but weren't included due to the probable reason stated.

Nevertheless, participants who joined the global mission will still get to take away 100 Festival Coins (FC) as reward. Players who registered their Game Sync ID at the Pokémon Global Link get to have twice the number of FC. FC is the currency used in the Festival Plaza, where the player engages in various mini-games with other players around the world and can use the said unit to purchase items, services, and a lot more.

In other related news, the first online competition named "Battle of Alola" will be held from Dec. 16 to Dec. 18. Registration has started since Dec. 7 and will be ending by Dec. 15. Players who participate will get 50 Battle points, another currency that can be used to purchase items in-game.

The competition will, of course, be limited to pokémon caught in the Alola region, but will be including Ash-Greninja. Players also have the option to include one special pokémon in their team, such as the legendary Solgaleo or Lunala.

There is a wide roster of pokémon in the Alola region, but those who competitively play can expect fan favorites, such as Aegislash and Garchomp. More details on rules and how to register can be found on its official website.
