'Quantico' season 2 updates: Series to introduce two new characters; pace will be slower as Alex moves to the CIA

Fans will be happy to know that after all the running around, subterfuge and distrust that Alex Parrish dealt with in the first season of "Quantico," the series will trod with a much slower pace in season 2.

"Quantico" was the breakout freshman series last TV season, with viewers thoroughly enjoying the twists and turns and the flashbacks juxtaposed with the present timeline. And now that the real terrorist has been exposed and Alex's (Priyanka Chopra) name finally cleared, fans can expect to see something different in the show's sophomore season.

Showrunner Josh Safran understandably couldn't reveal a lot about "Quantico" season 2, but he did say that the series will definitely move slower. The executive producer explained to TV Guide that this relatively relaxed pace is basically due to Alex not being hunted anymore and working for a different government agency, the CIA. This also means that the next season will be focusing on something much different.

"I think, if anything, we'd get to spend more time with the characters and relationships, and tackle them that way," Safran explained. "And we'll see how her new role [in the CIA] affects them."

"Them" might refer to Alex and Ryan's (Jake McLaughlin) relationship, which admittedly went through a lot of drama and complications last season. With Alex vindicated and the experiences the two lovers shared, there's a chance that their relationship has become stronger, or it might once again be rocked to the core with the introduction of a new character, Harry Doyle. Described in The Hollywood Reporter as a "gadabout," the character appears to be a chameleon, becoming anything to anybody. Perhaps, he will be something to Alex, too. "Being Human's" Russell Tovey has already been tapped to play the character.

Aside from Harry, fans will also be introduced to Lydia, a multilingual character said to be a mix of "Jessica Jones" and Maya of "Zero Dark Thirty." No one has been picked to play the character yet.

"Quantico" season 2 is expected to return to ABC in the fall.
