Real Madrid 2015 transfer rumors: Benitez targets Liverpool star Raheem Sterling

Real Madrid recently replaced their manager and are now looking to sign their first player in the summer.

Rafa Benitez was revealed to take over Carlo Ancelotti's place at the helm of Madrid after a disappointing season, and the Spaniard is now looking to raid one of his old clubs to try and bolster the Madrid line-up.

According to reports, Benitez is looking to nab Liverpool's Raheem Sterling after the Anfield star has expressed unwillingness to continue his professional life with Liverpool.

Sterling had begun his breakout season in an impressive fashion, becoming the Reds' offensive lifeline after missing games without striker Daniel Sturridge.

He played a total of 35 league games for Liverpool and scored seven times.

Unfortunately, he could not help the Merseyside club finish higher than sixth in the league and will miss European competition in the coming season.

This, coupled with his decision not to sign a new contract with the club, has led to speculations that he will be leaving the team. And now that a big squad like Madrid are looking to sign him, maybe this is the perfect opportunity he's been looking for.

Just 20 years old, Sterling may look to Benitez to help him become more mature and grow as a player. One of the knocks the star has taken has been to his mental state, as can be seen by his drop in form during the latter stages of the Premier League, which many attributed to the downfall of the club's rankings.

Benitez is a known tactician and may very easily teach Sterling a few things to grow into a system that suits Madrid and the other stars.

This may only be the first of many signings that Madrid will do this summer, and with some of their players scheduled to depart as well, a major overhaul at the Bernabeu may be happening before the start of the new campaign.
