Resident Evil news: Resident Evil TV series being developed by German film company

Fans of the zombie-themed game-turned-movie, Resident Evil, could be facing sad news: the next movie will be the franchise's last. "Resident Evil: Final Chapter" has been confirmed to be the last film in the successful series.

Constantin Films, the German production house that is in charge of the film franchise has confirmed that "Final Chapter" will be the final installment. Its production has been pushed back to 2015, after its lead star, Milla Jovovich, announced her pregnancy.

Though there's no release date yet, it's rumored to be shown sometime in 2016.

But this isn't the end of the Resident Evil universe. Constantin has also confirmed that it will develop a TV series based on the popular movies.

The last film in the series, "Resident Evil: Retribution", was released in 2012 and was a box-office success, making $240 million worldwide. Despite being criticized for the acting, plot, and characters, film critics were impressed by the visual effects and fight choreography.

According to reports from Variety, executive chairman Martin Moszkowicz said that the company is substantially increasing its television activities both in Germany and other parts of the globe. Its focus will be on fiction series.

It's still unclear whether the TV series would follow the same plot as the movies or if there are characters that will crossover to the show.

News of adapting the movie may be seen by some as a way to compete against the popular zombie-themed series, "The Walking Dead." The popularity of zombie-themed shows and movies could be a very good sign that a Resident Evil TV series will perform well once it hits the small screen.

Aside from Resident Evil, Constantin Film is also focusing on developing another TV series based on the book-turned-into-movie "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones." Constantin is serious about its objective in strengthening its hold on the international TV and movie scene.
