'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date, plot news: Writer Dan Guterman teases work on season 3 is finally done

(Facebook/RickandMorty)Production for "Rick and Morty" season 3 might have ended already.

It's a wrap. Production for "Rick and Morty" season 3 has finally come to an end. But when will it be ready for airing?

"Rick and Morty" fans were shocked when Dan Guterman tweeted that he was officially done with the show's third season. The cryptic tweet soon had fans worried that it meant he was done working for the series or that the show will be ending. But the writer's subsequent tweet soon cleared the air when it was revealed that his work on the season was done and that he could finally get some well-deserved sleep.

Millions of fans undoubtedly heaved a collective sigh of relief at this news and most even went ahead and congratulated Guterman for what was surely a job well done. However, the news that writing for the show is done doesn't necessarily mean "Rick and Morty" season 3 will be airing anytime soon.

That was made clear during show creator Dan Harmon's recent Reddit AMA where he couldn't reveal the exact air date for the third season. It's been said that the showrunner was actually waiting for the go-signal from either Adult Swim or the animation company as to whether the series could already be aired.

The writer also couldn't share anything about the upcoming season's plotline. However, he was able to share such interesting tidbits like what drink is in Rick's flask and whether some "Community" alums will be making cameos next season.

Despite the lack of information regarding the plotline, there's been no shortage of speculations as to what fans can expect from season 3. Among the most popular rumors are the ones involving Evil Morty, Rick breaking out from the Galactic Federal Prison in the first episode, and an impending divorce in the family. There are even rumors about the multiverse being explored further and fans finally getting an answer to the Ticket Theory.

No official release date has been set yet, but fans are hoping "Rick and Morty" season 3 might air before the year ends.
