Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs. Moto X Play: X Play lags behind the S6 Edge 's superb hardware

There are a number of devices to choose from when it comes to phablets, but the Moto X Play, with its huge battery, has quickly emerged as a good budget priced option than the beautiful, though much more expensive, S6 Edge from Samsung.

Design

When it comes to looks, the S6 Edge dominates as it has unique curved edges on its screen. One of these can even be customized to display five favorite apps. The next menu on the edge allows five important contacts to be displayed along with colors assigned to each. In addition, it can also display notifications, alerts and a night clock. As for its build, it has a metal frame and comes with Gorilla Glass 4 on its front and back. It comes in four standard colors, white, black, gold and silver. There is also a fingerprint scanner built into the home button which is not present on the Moto X Play. As for the device from Motorola, it also has a metal frame but it can be customized extensively on the Moto Maker website where customers can choose from a wide range of different lenses, metal accents and back panels created from wood, leather and silicone.

Display

The display on the S6 Edge is slightly bigger and shaper. It has a 5.7-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 518 pixels per inch while the device from Motorola has a 5.5-inch capacitive screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch.

Specs

In terms of hardware, the Moto X Play is not a match for S6 Edge which comes with an Exynos 7420 chipset, an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz along with a Mali-T760MP8 GPU. In the Moto X Play is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz ad four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.0 GHz and an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The S6 Edge is lags in this category as it does not have a memory slo, therefore external storage cannot be added. The version on the Moto X Play, however, can be used to add up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the device from Samsung is ahead with 4 GB while the Moto X Play only has 2 GB.

Battery

The Moto X Play has a powerful 3630 mAh battery while the S6 Edge has a 3000 mAh battery.

Price

The starting model of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge costs $299.99 with a two-year contract while the Moto X Play is expected to cost around $300, unlocked.
