Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 release date, specs, features, news: Both flagship smartphones will feature the iris scanner
Fresh reports claim that Samsung and LG will be the latest companies to feature iris scanning technology in their future flagships, the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5, respectively.

Iris scanners are slightly slower than fingerprint authentication, but are more accurate than regular fingerprint scanners, as they are based on patterns in the iris that are unique to each individual. Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu had teamed up to recently unveil the Arrows NX F-04G, the world's first smartphone with iris recognition technology that can be used to both unlock the device and also make mobile payments.
There have been reports of other manufacturers working on incorporating iris scanner in their mobile devices. For instance, Microsoft has announced that its upcoming Windows 10 OS would use iris recognition to allow users to log into their computers. The latest rumors claim that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7 LG's yet-to-be-announced LG G5 will feature iris scanning technology.
Samsung has been reportedly developing iris scanners to be featured in its flagship devices and the upcoming Galaxy S7 is likely to come with an iris scanner. The Korean company is expected to use front-facing cameras in the Galaxy S7 in order to map the intricacies of unique iris patterns of users.
On the other hand, LG's flagship phone for 2016, presumably called the LG G5, will feature an iris reading sensor built by the biometrics firm Irience, which has already completed development of the hardware module to be included into the smartphone. Irience is now tweaking its algorithms in order to increase the recognition range of the iris reading sensor from 12in (30cm) to 20in (50cm). This will allow users of the LG G5 to unlock their phone with just a glance, instead of pressing their face against the handset.
Both the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 are expected to be released in 2016 with iris scanning technology and could be followed soon by other mobile manufacturers.
