'Scandal' season 6 rumors and updates: Tony Goldwyn leaving the show?

Now that Tony Goldwyn's character President Fitzgerald Grant is stepping down from office, fans are concerned on whether or not Goldwyn will still be part of "Scandal" season 6.
The ABC hit political drama's executive producer, Betsy Beers, told The Hollywood Reporter that they will be keeping him in the show and that he is not going anywhere. Beers said that there are a lot of possible angles for his storyline.
Beers said, "When Fitz is out of office, I think he could do anything he wanted. I don't want him to move to Vermont and make jam immediately — I'm not a big fan of that — but I think he could become an advocate, a judge, a private eye or join OPA or have his own post-Scandal show where he does anything. Spinoff! Fitz could do pretty much anything as far as I'm concerned."
There are also rumors suggesting that Fitz will be pursuing Olivia Pope played by Kerry Washington after stepping down from his position.
The showrunner Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that more good things will happen, especially for Olivia in season 6.
Rhimes said, "I don't know if you all will notice this — because Olivia beats people to death with chairs and stuff — but I feel like I can see it."
"There's an optimism that exists in the work now," Rhimes said while referring to Olivia's jaw dropping scene when she killed Andrew in the last season's finale episode.
There were also speculations about a delay in the release of "Scandal" season 6 because of Washington's pregnancy. They said that it will be moved to a later date and will not return for its normal fall premiere. However people behind the show has not confirmed nor denied anything about this.
What has been confirmed rather is that the sequel will only have 16 episodes instead of the usual 22.
For those who missed the previous season and fans who are eagerly awaiting the upcoming "Scandal," Netflix is scheduled to air the "Scandal" season 5 on June 11.
The release date of "Scandal" season 6 has yet to be announced.
