A season 3 renewal is still uncertain for MTV's "Scream" despite the clamor of the fans to have the series renewed for another season.

It's been a month since "Scream" season 2 aired its finale episode, but, as of this writing, it still remains unclear whether the thriller series will still have a shot at another season run. With this, fans of the show have been clamoring more and more for MTV to renew "Scream" for a season 3

According to reports, fans have even launched a campaign on Change.org in order to convince MTV to green light the series for another season. The campaign is only short of less than 1,500 signatures to meet its target of 5,000 petitioners.

While the fate of "Scream" season 3 remains up in the air at this point in time, it is said that hope may not be lost at all for its renewal. For one thing, after the series aired its season 2 finale episode, the show's official Twitter account came up with a post that was interpreted by some as a hint for its season renewal.

"Well, #MTVScream Season 2 finally came to an end last night...or did it?" said the intriguing post.

However, after it was announced a few weeks back that "Scream" will have a two-hour Halloween special, there are now speculations saying that there may be a dim possibility for "Scream" to have another season as the purpose of the said special is to tie the loose ends that the season 2 finale left.

To the uninitiated, it was revealed in the season 2 finale that Kieran (Amadeus Serafini) is actually the person behind the mask and the murders. However, when he was already in prison, he received a phone call from someone incognito who asked him what he was doing with the mask, which the caller claimed to be his originally.

Now, as Brandon James is known to be the original owner of the mask, it is now believed that the character may be alive after all and will be featured in the Halloween special.

Will "Scream Halloween" special serve as the curtain call for "Scream" TV series?

Fans can only hope otherwise.
