'Shameless' season 8 spoilers: Can Lip keep up with his AA meetings?

Showtime has recently announced that "Shameless" has been renewed for season 8 with Emmy Rossum still on board as Fiona Gallagher.
According to Variety, the news came several days after the last installment ended on a high note. Rossum and the network were previously reported to be at a standoff because of a contract dispute. After a lengthy discussion, they have finally come up with an agreement that works for both parties.
Production for season 8 will reportedly start in May of next year, with the premiere date still to be announced. There is going to be a total of 12 episodes in the new season.
The Gallagher family came together in last season's finale for Monica (Chloe Webb), who was declared dead due to cerebral hemorrhage. She had a parting gift to her ex-husband and kids, though. In a storage unit which she was renting, her family found several bags of crystal meth. Frank (William H. Macy) wanted to sell them and divide the money among the kids, but Fiona (Rossum) insisted they flush the drugs in the lavatory. When the others realized how much money they were bound to get after selling Monica's drugs, they agreed to divide the crystals evenly. Later on, Fiona put some of the meth inside Monica's casket.
At home, Frank became emotional, telling his children that they could never erase Monica from their lives. He also looked back at the first time they met when they were still in high school and admitted he had always loved her. The rest of the Gallaghers were also in a morose mood. The scene ended with the family seemingly in good terms. Fiona has a new apartment building, whereas Ian (Cameron Monaghan) was back on patrol. He and Trevor (Elliott Fletcher) are back together after he sent away Mickey (Noel Fisher).
Lip (Jeremy Allen White), on the other hand, was attending AA meetings. He also said he wanted to return to college and make something out of his life. The next season will see if he will continue being a good boy or if he will return to chugging alcohol every opportunity he gets. Will he finally stop becoming Fiona's number one headache?
"Shameless" is expected to return in 2017 on Showtime.
