Skype 4.7 for Android: Making your battery sigh with relief

On Tuesday, Skype delivered Skype 4.7 for Android, which serves up significant battery savings, allowing most users to leave Skype running and not affect battery life, an article in Skype's website announced. Skype stated it was a challenging process as it has to change the way its technology works. The tech transformation is still ongoing, but it has come to the stage that people can already use it.
Sometimes, changes you cannot see makes a big difference. Imagine Skype running on your smartphone all day without the need to worry about battery life. Currently, users need to check if Skype is running in the background and turn if off when necessary, so as to save battery life. Skype for Android has been working to make that issue disappear ever since Skype in July promised to improve its mobile experience.
To be able to save battery life, instant message notification in group chats is turned off tentatively. Since group chats are important to those involved, Skype assures that in the future, notifications will be back again, without additional impact to the battery. For those who cannot wait for that to happen, they can change the settings that Skype added:
Settings -> Notifications -> check "Sync group messages in the background" box
Likewise, this version includes a workaround for the KitKat bug when the camera is synced, and adds voice and video calling with tablets having no Bluetooth; it now also lists your contacts from Windows Live Messenger in Skype or default view.
The Skype update can alreayd be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Later this month, the Kindle Fire family will also have its own Skype version.
