Lead actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles took to social media to share the start of "Supernatural" season 12 production. Actor Misha Collins also talked about his character in the upcoming season.

Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester on the series, uploaded the cover photo of a Comic-Con featuring the Winchester brothers on Facebook. With it he wrote, "Check it out!! Supernatural is gonna be one of the exclusive covers for Comic-Con! Woohoo!! Jensen Ackles and I think this makes day 1 of filming Season 12 even better :) ‪#‎WBSDCC‬‬."

Meanwhile, Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, posted a photo of himself with the caption, "Ahhhh season 12. Here we go!!!! (Fun fact-longest running genre TV series in American television history). Holy crap." His look is different from the shaved appearance Dean usually wears.

The season will begin with mysteries left by the finale of season 11. Sam's fate is unknown as he was brought to the ground and abducted by a member of the Men Of Letters. Dean comes home unaware of what happened to Sam and sees their mother resurrected, and Castiel's existence is also in question.

In an interview with Nerdist, actor Misha Collins, who plays Castiel, revealed "Season 12 is actually going to feel like we're getting back to the show's roots. It's going to feel a lot like earlier seasons of the show, which I'm excited about. And the same really goes for my character in particular."

Castiel is a fan favorite angel who was gone through lengths to help his friends, the Winchester brothers. Since his introduction to the show, Collins' character has died and has risen, has become human, and has become a vessel for Lucifer.

Collins confessed that he always wanted Castiel to play a tough guy and he got to play it while being possessed by Lucifer. While fans expect him to be the gentle angel that he is, Collins said, "Cas has got his mojo back. Finally. I'm so excited about that. I'm excited to see it unfold. I have a feeling that the fans won't be disappointed."

"Supernatural" season 12 premieres on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
