Sony Xperia XR release date: specs and features rumors

Sony's Xperia X line is enjoying positive reviews, and there are rumors that the Xperia F8331 is actually the codename for the phone model which will be eventually released as the Sony Xperia XR. The device is expected to be released in September.

Phone Radar shares some supposed leaked images of the Sony Xperia XR, which reveal a design that's noticeably different from other Sony smartphones. This difference suggests that the upcoming model will not just be another upgrade of the previously released model, but could possibly be the new flagship phone of Sony.

The photo shows the front image of the phone with a glass cover and curved sides. The front speakers are also visible and so is the LED flash layout. Another noticeable addition in the front image is a partition, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The power button is also located on one of the sides which could feature a fingerprint scanner. Rumors about the specs include a 5.1-inch screen display at 1920 x 1080 pixels. The front camera is expected to have a 13MP resolution with the rear camera having a 21MP resolution.

The reported processor is said to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with 3 GB RAM. Internal memory is indicated to be 32 GB, which has an expandable external memory of up to 128 GB.

Mobile & Apps further speculates that the Sony Xperia XR could be made with a metallic chassis as compared to Xperia Z5's half metal and half glass body. The upcoming phone is also expected to be pressure sensitive and Visual Reality (VR) technology-compatible.

Sony's newest phone is also speculated to have 4K video recording capability. Because of the newest Android Operating System, the Sony Xperia XR is additionally believed to be equipped with the latest Android Nougat OS.

September is fast approaching, and the official announcement is expected to be made soon.
