Spotify ousts Pandora, becomes more popular music streaming app

Spotify may be new to the music streaming platform but it has proven to be a strong contender, spawning other similar services from tech giant Apple. Another proof of its dominance over the relatively new platform is news that it has finally ousted years old Pandora as the number one music streaming app.
App analytics firm App Annie has recently reported that Spoitify has just been crowned the most popular music streaming app, ousting Pandora of its previously held title. The report covered bases such as active users, downloads, and revenues. The newcomer beat Pandora in all bases. The site even predicted that the margin will likely widen in the next few months.
This is something Pandora needs to prepare for. While it's true that it's still number one in the United States, it may also lose that grounding when Spotify widens the gap. It should also be noted that the report does not include Apple Music, which launched June of this year and which is also slowly getting grounding from a lot of users.
The Oakland-based company, however, maintains that they have nothing to fear. In a Business Insider article in October, CEO Brian McAndrews talked about Pandora's edge over Spotify. He says his steaming service has a more sustainable business plan, making it a more viable company to stay in the market.
"I think some other models like Spotify and others, there are some that have perpetual free alternatives, and that is going to attract some of the younger audience. Whether that's sustainable or not is a very different question," he explains.
Here's to hoping he's right. As of late, Pandora has not only been ousted as the number one streaming service but has also faced stock troubles. It lost $85.9 million last quarter and a lot of investors' confidence has been shaken up.
More on this as it becomes available.
