'Stranger Things' season 2 spoilers: new characters expected

(Facebook/StrangerThingsTV)"Stranger Things" is now steaming on Netflix.

Netflix's "Stranger Things" was a surprise hit, appealing to fans of many genres, including science fiction and supernatural. And with a successful first season, a renewal is definitely coming. But what will season 2 have in store for the Byers family?

Creators and twins Matt and Ross Duffer have said that they are definitely open to continuing the series as long as the streaming giant allows them to. However, the Duffer brothers have also said that they are not looking to have the show go on for more seasons than it should.

"Right now, the hope is to continue with this. Try to tell the story to its end, and then move on to something else," Ross told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's not going to be like a seven-year story," chimed Matt. The brothers are careful not to stretch the story too much that it goes up to a point that it loses its quality. However, they do assure fans that "Stranger Things" is at the top of their priority list right now.

As for what season 2 will bring to the table, the showrunners revealed to Collider that they are still going to follow the Byers family, but are looking to add a few more characters into the mix.

"We would introduce some new characters, but follow this group. We fell in love with the kids and all of our actors, so we want to stay with them," Matt explained.

In addition to new faces, new directors are also a part of the plan. The two brothers have expressed their admiration for numerous directors and are definitely open to the idea of asking them to come on board.

Even though Netflix has yet to confirm a second season order for the series, all the signs point to an inevitable renewal. The first season was received with critical acclaim and amassed a loyal fan following. With hints of Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, and Stephen King, the first season ended with Eleven's apparent death. However, it seems like the young girl is still alive judging by the way things were left in the season 1 finale.

The first season of "Stranger Things" can be streamed on Netflix.
