'Supernatural' season 11 spoilers: midseason trailer shows Crowley in a Christmas onesie and Lucifer dressed as Santa; episode 10 to air on Jan. 20

Most series are off on holiday breaks, including "Supernatural" season 11, but the series will return next year with a Christmas gift that, while late, will no doubt be appreciated by its legion of fans.

The popular CW series will return in January with a Christmas episode that trumps all other Christmas episodes, as no one can beat the image of Crowley in his jammies opening his presents.

There's no synopsis yet for episode 11, "The Devil in the Details," but it's fine as the episode's trailer is enough to satiate fans for a few weeks. The clip starts with a view of a house all decked out for Christmas. Crowley (Mark Sheppard) is seen in a holiday onesie, excitedly checking out presents. Rowena (Ruth Connell) comes down dressed as Rudolph, complete with antlers and a red nose. She doesn't look too happy though and just gazes resignedly at her son as he opens his present and happily says he got a Sam. And sure enough, he's waving a Funko Pop! Sam toy. Someone suddenly kicks the door down, and it's Santa! No, actually it's just Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) dressed up in the red suit.

The surreal scene is followed by a montage of clips showing Dean (Jensen Ackles) running in the woods, Lucifer putting his hand on Sam's (Jared Padalecki) head, Dean driving, Amara (Emily Swallow) seemingly unconscious and Castiel (Misha Collins) with his chest carved with strange symbols. And as a finale, Lucifer (as Santa) wishes everyone a Merry Christmas.

The irreverent trailer is a good way to distract fans who are depressed over Sam getting his hopes crushed again when it was revealed in the previous episode that all the visions he had been getting were actually from Lucifer and God, as always, was nowhere to be found.

Aside from explaining what that surreal Crowley and Rowena Christmas scene was all about, fans are hoping episode 10 will also show Dean looking for a way to bring his brother out from the cage.

"Supernatural" season 11's midseason premiere will be aired on January 20, 2016.
