'Switched at Birth' season 5 spoilers: Bay, Daphne resent Kathryn for leaving John

(Facebook/SwitchedatBirth)John and Kathryn may be getting a divorce in "Switched at Birth" season 5.

Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) will finally learn the status of their parents' marriage in the upcoming season of "Switched at Birth."

As per Movie News Guide, the new installment does not bode well for the Kennish couple. John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn (Lea Thompson) are reportedly getting a divorce and this will greatly disappoint their kids. Last season, Bay and Daphne were both summoned home because of a family emergency. It is expected that the premiere will reveal what transpired in that urgent call. Speculations claim Kathryn called the girls to tell them that she was divorcing John.

Meanwhile, there is another rumor that season 5 will see the death of a major character. The clues point to John dying due to a terminal sickness. His condition will allegedly be exacerbated by his broken heart. If John ends up dying in such a grim situation, Bay and Daphne will likely be angry at Kathryn. They are aware of the financial difficulties the family has been facing, but they will never expect Kathryn to throw in the towel so easily. In Kathryn's defense, she really tried hard to understand and support John with his schemes, but she has had enough.

As per the promo, Bay must have realized the mess she is coming into when she said they should never have returned to Kansas. She also has another hurdle to face. Regina (Constance Marie) is dating and her new boyfriend is not much older than Bay. She is shown kissing Luca (Michael Galante) in the clip and it is obvious they have a huge age difference. Luca, however, does not seem to mind. In fact, he tells her he does not care that his girlfriend is much older than him.

"Switched at Birth" season 5 premieres on Jan. 24 on Freeform.
