'The Bachelorette' season 12: JoJo Fletcher talks falling in love on the show and addresses 'lack of diversity' issue

On Monday, fans finally looked into JoJo Fletcher's first meeting with the 26 men who will battle it out to win her heart, which was recently broken on "The Bachelor" after Ben Higgins appeared to have "blindsided" her.
Speaking to People for this week's issue, the 25-year-old explained that her experience with "The Bachelorette" was a painful one since she felt love for more than one of the men she dated. "I fell for more than one guy. And that was surprising! It's very painful. If I only had feelings for one guy, it would have been smooth sailing. But each relationship was so important to me," she explained.
Despite the pains she went through with the reality dating show, Fletcher said she learned to trust her own judgment as she came out stronger and happy after everything went down.
As for Higgins, who is now engaged to Lauren B., Fletcher admitted that the man who broke her heart on live TV "was one of the greatest loves of my life." Despite having her heart broken and mended then broken again, Fletcher learned to accept the realities of life and be happy moving forward.
Meanwhile, both "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" recently received backlash from fans who believe that the shows lacked diversity and was "too white."
In a recent press conference, Fletcher clarified that her season is much more diverse than the previous installments. According to Variety, the reality TV star said, "I can definitely say that I have a very diverse group of men that come from very different parts of life and they all just bring a lot to the table."
While the premiere saw one man of color get eliminated on Monday night's rose ceremony, Fletcher seemed to be attracted to Grant Kemp, a firefighter who happens to be one of the diverse contestants in the season.
Fletcher herself is of Persian descent and is one of the two non-white leads that starred in the entire franchise.
"The Bachelorette" airs every Monday, 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
