'The Big Bang Theory' spin-off cast news, updates: Prequel casts young Sheldon Cooper and his mother
CBS' highly anticipated spin-off to its popular sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" is seeing some progress with its production. It has recently found the young actor set to portray the titular character, Sheldon Cooper.

The Hollywood Reporter points out that CBS has not revealed an official pilot order for the spin-off. Nevertheless, it has cast "Big Little Lies" actor Iain Armitage to portray the young genius Sheldon, who was made famous by Jim Parsons in the original series "The Big Bang Theory." Meanwhile, Sheldon's devout Catholic mother, Mary Cooper, will be portrayed by "Scandal" actress Zoe Perry. No word has been said about Sheldon's father, but the show would most likely include him in the series, who is such a colorful character based on his narratives about his childhood.
Like the original series, "Sheldon" will be penned by co-creator Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and showrunner Steve Molaro. According to the publication, the upcoming show will have a hint of "Malcolm in the Middle," but, ultimately, it will revolve around the colorful childhood of the theoretical physicist.
The cast members of "The Big Bang Theory" are not expected to reprise their roles in the spin-off, but Parsons has a role to play. He will serve as an executive producer. At the same time, he will mentor the young actor of Sheldon Cooper.
As for the original series, the network has yet to renew "The Big Bang Theory" for another season since the original five have yet to renew their contracts. As previously reported, negotiations are still ongoing. Most recently, Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg have offered to deduct $100,000 from their salaries to fund Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch's pay raise. The original five receive $1 million per episode, while Bialik and Rauch, who joined the show in season 3, will be getting a $450,000 rate if they are to split the $500,000 from their co-actors.
More news and updates on the upcoming spin-off should arrive soon.
